The Sand Tiger Shark is found in coastal waters in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They are a common sight in aquariums around the world, and do well in captivity if given enough space in their tanks to swim freely. Though they appear quite ferocious with their sharp, exposed teeth and large size, they are relatively slow-moving, peaceful creatures that don’t pose a significant risk to humans. Unprovoked attacks are very rare, and no recorded fatalities have been attributed to the Sand Tiger. They hunt mostly at night and prey on fish, including other sharks and stingrays. Also known as the Gray Nurse Shark, the fearsome looking Sand Tiger Shark is actually quite docile and not particularly dangerous to humans.
