One of the most common farm animals around the world, pigs have been domesticated since around 13,000 B.C. The genus Sus contains many of the most well-known pig species, the pot-bellied pig included. Because pot-bellied pigs descended from boars like many other pig species, they are often able to interbreed with other types of domesticated pigs. In fact, many groups of pot-bellied pigs are genetically dissimilar from one another, simply because they’ve bred with other pig species over the years. The Large White Pig, also called Large White Swine, lives up to its name, being both big in size and white-haired (though the pinkish skin often shows through the thin fur covering).
