CURSED INK Sleepaway Board Game

Imagine a summer camp, on the shores of a lake and surrounded by a deep forest. Imagine the camp monitors, who fight year after year against the terrible Lindworm, the terrifying creature that lives in their surroundings. Imagine the children, who live the summer of their lives, without knowing the danger that lurks. Sleepaway, the work of Jay Dragon, is a different role-playing game. At first, it may not seem like it: we are going to face a monster. but there is much more here. Players take on the role of summer camp counselors to cooperatively tell a story about their experiences fighting the Lindworm, a frightening and creepy being. Sleepaway is the first Cursed Ink publication to use exclusively neutral language. But Sleepaway drags you into personal stories within the framework of that summer camp besieged by a monster. It makes you face your fears and learn to know yourself better. The Sleepaway system is based on the mechanics of Belonging Outside Belongins (BOB), and is simple and effective. No dice are used and no DJ is required. The PJ creation system is based, for its part, on PBTA but adding its own flavor and perspective. You don´t play powerful people or unusual people, but rather fallible people whose mistakes fuel the development of the game. Making mistakes belongs to people. The book includes seven scripts, which we will discuss in future news. They move away from the traditional concept of “monster hunters” and tend to show us a much more poetic and interior approach to these people. The decisions about PJ´s appearance and gender are absolutely figurative and poetic, as Sleepaway is, above all, an inclusive game that discards obvious and familiar categories. But it is also a horror game, where the Lindworm awaits and the Stranger can act at any moment. The Lindworm is pure horror and should not be played by anyone (something that is clearly specified in the rules), but it can be summoned to act against the party. Their actions will always sow fear, sorrow and despair. But fear not. If your PC dies, it may open the door for those who once fought the Lindworm to return. And they will come as part of the Strange... Light the bonfire, warm your hands over the fire and tune the guitar. The children run and play in the clearing and your heart goes out to them. But your eyes watch the thicket, because you well know that another gaze, perfidious and devious, awaits its opportunity to claim the next victim.
